Patriots’ Day being recognized in Utah took a big step forward.
Our resolution was unanimously passed by the House Legislative committee.
Representative Walt Brooks introduced the bill, Jeff McKenna explained the contents and intent of the bill. Doug McGregor, as a member of the Utah America 250 Committee did a wonderful job explaining the significance of passing the Resolution this year on the 250th Anniversary of the Shot Heard Round the World.
Kristie Rindlisbacher, a Fifth Grade Teacher and Give Me Liberty participant, appeared by video and actually read words from her students about their feelings as to why Utah should join seven other states in recognizing April 19th as Patriots’ Day.
H.C.R. 7 has been placed on a fast track for House approval. Next week the House should vote and approve it.
Next, it goes through the same Senate process - It will be assigned to a committee, it will be heard and voted on by committee, if passed in committee then voted on by the full Senate, if approved by the full Senate it would then need to signed by the Governor.
The dilemma is this all must occur (except Governor signature) before the end of the legislative session March 7 (only 21 days).
Thankfully, Senator Stratton has agreed to endorse H.C.R. 7 in the Senate. Please email him your appreciation (kstratton@le.utah.gov)
Additionally, we have the use of a lobbyist that has been and will continue to be critical for our goal of getting everything completed before March 7. To this end, PLEASE consider helping with the cost of the lobbyist. Any contribution you can make will be matched by another donor. Please contact us at UtahPatriotsDay@gmail.com to help with this cost.
The idea of perpetually having April 19 recognized as Patriots’ Day in Utah is a wonderful cause.
